The arrangement of the side phenyl groups of PS in a space is a random structure, resulting in PS becoming an amorphous polymer and thus having high transparency; however, in recent years, the newly developed syndiotactic polystyrene SPS has high regularity, although Other properties are good, but transparency is low.

Due to the presence of phenyl group, the α hydrogen atom in the main chain is activated, which is easily oxidized by oxygen in the air, and the product turns yellow and becomes brittle when used outdoors for a long time.
