Xilinx, Inc. and two Xilinx Alliance program members, Northwest Logic and Xylon, jointly announced the launch of a Xilinx low-cost FPGA MIPI interface IP, specifically designed for cost-sensitive audio and video The monitor and camera are optimized. Xilinx FPGAs now link image sensors and ASSP components that support CSI-2 and DSI standards for the development of high bandwidth applications supporting 4K 2K and higher resolution. Xilinx’s MIPI-enabled solution further enhances Xilinx’s Smarter Vision commitment to high-end real-time analysis and realistic display applications.
Aaron Behman, head of Xilinx's broadcast and professional audiovisual business unit, said: "The MIPI DSI and CSI-2 interfaces are currently the main link standards linking low-cost displays, cameras, video and audio applications processors and Xilinx7 series and Spartan6 FPGA components. Therefore, FPGA components can be applied more to MIPI-enabled products than ever before, especially products that support 4K 2K and higher resolution."
Northwest Logic provides a complete DSI (host and peripheral) and CSI-2 (Tx&Rx) controller core, while fully supporting 1-4 channel and 8-channel (dual 4 channel) MIPI operations. These cores can be integrated with PHY logic to implement Xilinx's low-cost MIPI interface technology. Brian Daellenbach, president of Northwest Logic, said: "The Xilinx low-cost MIPI interface solution will enable the implementation of new FPGA MIPI products. The Northwest MIPI MIPI core has passed full hardware certification and is now available to users."
Xylon provides multiple and comprehensive video processing IP cores. Xylon currently uses the existing Zynq All Programmable SoC evaluation board (ZC702 & ZC706) to run Xilinx's FPGA Mezzanine Card (FMC) to create a complete display system. The Xilinx FMC used has built a low-cost MIPI. Interface program, Northwest Logic's CSI-2 and DSI cores, and Xylon's own core.
This demonstration system uses a Xilinx FPGA to process real-time video streaming from the Omni Vision CMOS sensor (OV16820) and then streams the output from a MIPI-capable display. According to Davor Kovacec, CEO of Xylon, "This demonstration system shows that system designers can use this interface solution and related logi BRICKS to quickly develop various low-cost FPGA MIPI systems and provide reliable performance."
