Wearable new application rescue personnel jacket can also receive information [Full text]

Science and Technology News On April 16th, a shipwreck accident occurred on South Korea’s “Times” passenger ship. Many people were killed in the accident, including Chinese. This accident followed a security incident that caused international concern after the Malaysia Airlines plane crash. In the search and rescue process after the accident, a large number of search and rescue personnel used modern high-tech products, greatly improving the efficiency of search and rescue.

I believe that everyone is familiar with the call equipment used by search and rescue personnel, and generally use wireless walkie-talkies. However, underwater or some inconvenient to speak, you need to use reading methods. In this regard, the Norwegian scientists recently introduced a communication jacket. The characteristics of the communication jacket can not only maintain the message receiving ability for the user, but also combine with the popular wearables of today, so that the rescuer can use it more conveniently.

The prototype of this jacket was developed with the students of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, sewing electronic components into the clothes, including a narrow LCD screen on the sleeves. Their idea is that all members of the rescue team will wear this jacket so that they can communicate with each other and keep in touch with team leaders.

When the rescue leader sends a message from a mobile phone or a computer, the jacket will receive it and alert the rescue personnel through a beeper alarm on the collar. The user can read the information by looking at the screen.

Acceptable information jacket
People may feel that a smart phone can do similar things, but most firefighters do not want to take out a mobile phone for every message. Moreover, mobile networks may not be smooth or even completely disrupted in the event of major disasters.

The SINTEF Jacket uses a private Wi-Fi Direct system. A single message is passed between the jackets. The maximum distance is 50 meters. This technology originally used a web-based social media platform, such as Facebook, to share information, and it now appears that it can be used in other ways.

However, so far, people wearing jackets are still unable to reply to information and cannot send information to each other. I look forward to adding these features in the future, preferably with a voice version.
