Access Control System Common Problems and Solutions

Everyone in the day-to-day installation or use of the access control system will always encounter some problems. Here we have compiled some of the more common problems and their causes. Once everyone encounters similar problems in the future, they will be able to troubleshoot based on the listed issues. Hopefully, These can help everyone.

Symptom 1: After the access control device is connected, the software cannot communicate with the computer.

Possible causes when using RS485 communication:

(1) The wiring between controller and network extender is incorrect.

(2) The distance from the controller to the network extender exceeds the effective length (1200M).

(3) Whether the serial port of the computer is normal, whether there is a normal connection or is occupied by other programs, and these reasons are excluded from testing.

(4) In the software settings, the serial number is correct.

(5) Line interference, not normal communication.

Symptom 2: The card is close to the card reader, the buzzer does not sound, and the indicator lamp does not respond. The communication is normal.

Possible Causes:

(1) The connection between reader and controller is incorrect;

(2) The reader to controller line exceeds the effective length (120M).

Symptom 3: The valid card is near the card reader, the buzzer sounds, the LED indicator has no change, and the door cannot be opened.

Possible Causes:

(1) The connection between reader and controller is incorrect;

(2) The line is seriously disturbed and the card reader data cannot be transmitted to the controller.

Symptom 4: The use of the access controller has been normal. One day it suddenly found that all valid cards cannot be opened (invalid card).

Possible Causes:

(1) The operator sets the access controller to a rest day (all cards cannot be opened on rest days);

(2) The operator has initialized the access controller or other reasons causing the controller to execute an initialization command.

Symptom 5: The valid card is close to the card reader, the buzzer sounds, the LED indicator turns green, but the door lock is not open.

Possible Causes:

(1) The connection between the controller and the electronically controlled lock is incorrect;

(2) Whether the power supply to the electric lock is normal (the electric lock requires a separate power supply);

(3) Electronically controlled lock failure;

(4) The mechanical locking of the tongue and the latch occurs.

Symptom 6: The card reader will be effectively approached, the buzzer will sound, the door lock will be open, but the light of the card reader will be off.

Possible Causes:

(1) The controller and the electronically controlled lock share a single power supply, and the reversed potential of the electric lock interferes, causing the controller to reset;

(2) The power supply is insufficient, causing the controller and card reader to not work properly.
