Europe to invest 194 billion euros in wind power in the next decade

The European Wind Energy Association announced on the 30th the goal of wind power development in the next 40 years and stated that its 2020 strategy, 2030 strategy and 2050 strategy will make a tangible contribution to the EU's commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% to 95% by 2050.

The European Wind Energy Association stated that it will elaborate on the stage development goal strategy in the new monthly report. The report will introduce the positive impact of wind energy on EU energy security, reducing CO2 emissions and creating jobs. This fall, the European Commission will also publish the 2050 energy roadmap.

The European Wind Energy Association predicts that by 2020, the total installed capacity of wind power in the European Union will reach 230,000 megawatts, which meets 15.7% of the European Union's electricity demand, of which 190,000 megawatts belong to land-based wind power and 40,000 megawatts belong to marine wind power. By the end of 2010, the installed capacity of wind power in the European Union was 84,000 megawatts, which was 5.3% of the total demand.

By 2030, the installed capacity of wind power in the European Union will reach 400,000 megawatts, meeting 28.5% of the EU's electricity demand, of which 250,000 megawatts belong to land-based wind power and 150,000 megawatts belong to marine wind power. By 2050, half of the electricity in EU countries will be provided by wind energy, with a total installed capacity of 735,000 megawatts, and 460,000 megawatts of marine wind power will exceed 275,000 megawatts of land-based wind power.

The European Wind Energy Association believes that in the next 10 years, the EU’s land wind power and ocean wind power will require a total investment of 194 billion euros (approximately 273.5 billion U.S. dollars), and the EU’s annual investment in wind power companies will also grow from 13 billion euros (approximately 18.3 billion U.S. dollars) in 2010. Increased to 27 billion euros (about 38.1 billion U.S. dollars).

Christian Shaer, head of the European Wind Energy Association, called on the EU to formulate an energy policy after 2020 as soon as possible, especially the Renewable Energy 2030 strategy, and to release a strong and clear signal to transform the EU's electricity infrastructure, so that the industry has the courage to invest.

The European Wind Energy Association estimates that by 2020, among the 27 member states of the European Union, wind power in Ireland, Denmark, Portugal, Spain and Greece will rank among the top 5 in total electricity consumption, respectively 52%, 38%, and 28 %, 27% and 23%.
