LOS ANGELES, MARCH 5 (Reporter Altitude) A study published in the latest issue of the American Journal of Cardiology states that eating foods high in potassium can reduce people’s risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. This study was done at the medical school of Federico II University in Naples, Italy. Researchers investigated and analyzed data on potassium intake, daily eating habits, and health status of the 247,000 male and female subjects and found that if they were able to ingest 1.64 grams of potassium per day, the study subjects suffered from stroke. The odds are reduced by 21% and the risk of heart disease is also reduced. The researchers explained that potassium-rich foods have a role in lowering blood pressure, especially for people with high blood pressure and salt intake. In addition, potassium can also play a role in alleviating atherosclerosis and preventing arterial wall thickening, and these are important factors that cause cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
